Anonymous asked: what camp do/did you go to? also i noticed when you posted the thing about which camps were hiring URJ Camp George was up there. This will be my last summer there as a camper. i've grown up there and hope this summer will be the absolute best!
Thanks for sharing about Camp George, we love hearing about positive experiences. Your question also gives me an opportunity to brag about our new page: FAQ. Please explore!

Anonymous asked: Can you give advice on switching camps? I just got a job at a new camp, not the one I've grown up at, and i'm super nervous! Thanks
Be open to new things and try not to make constant comparisons in your head (even though you won’t be able to avoid some of them).

Summer Jobs
So far these are the responses we’ve recieved about who is/may be still hiring. Google is a great friend. If you can find the camp’s site there is usually a ‘contact us’ section that might be helpful.
- most scout camps in California
- Mar-Lu-Ridge, a Lutheran camp in Jefferson, Maryland
- URJ Crane Lake Camp in West Stockbridge, MA possibly
- URJ Camp George in Parry Sound, Ontario definitely
- Fernwood Cove might still need female staff
- Camp Wilson, a YMCA camp in Ohio is still hiring
- YMCA Camp Letts in Mayo, MD may still be hiring
- CYO Camp Rancho Framasa in Nashville, Indiana is still hiring.
- Camp Hanes YMCA in King, NC
- Camp Whispering Pines in Tucson, Arizona is still hiring! We are looking for female counselors over the age of 21
- YMCA Camp Piomingo in Kentucky still has a few positions open. Really need 2 more Equestrian counselors
- Camp Ottari in Hiwasse, Virginia is hiring staff for various program areas. Scouting experience is a major plus, but not required. Both females and males may apply, 16+. :)
- Don’t forget that the ACA is the mother of all information in the camp world.

It’s Tuesday!
While this may seem apparent and ordinary to many of you, it also happens to be my last day of undergraduate classes…ever. I’m feeling very happy and accomplished and felt that it was only appropriate to share the love. It’s been a while since one of these posts and we’ve grown significantly since then. So to all you new comers- when people send in positive responses to Camp Confessions, I collect them and then I publish them. These are not a response to what I alone do because I couldn’t run this site without submissions from followers, publicity from followers, and the collective camp experience of this community. These messages are for you too because you make this site possible.
- OH MY GOD, THERE’S A SEND FANMAIL OPTION? WHAT IS THIS WITCHCRAFT? Anyways, really I just wanted to see what that button did but I do love your blog, so true story!:P

The Monthly Submissions Reminder
We’re trying to stay as anonymous as possible because we all want to have futures and we extend that courtesy to you as well. So we won’t credit your confession unless you expressly ask us to (no one has so far). As a huge supporter of camping and the outdoors, we don’t want any of these confessions to reflect poorly on the organizations that made us stronger people so we won’t be naming any specific camps either, unless they are submitted with approval by an official representative. We’ve been sticking to general camp topics to hopefully widen our appeal but we are supportive of specific types of camps and the confessions that come with them. Feel free to submit whatever.
We will accept all submissions but we will choose what to post to avoid repetition and issues with any of the concerns above. As far as submissions for confessions- if you don’t see your exact submission there are several possibilities:
1) it is really similar to a confession that has already been written*
2) it’s in the inbox, or in organizing/editing to go to the queue, or in the queue all of which varies in length at any given time**
3) we tweaked it a bit to make it more general
4) we tweaked it a bit to make it more of a confession and less of a moment/expression/statement thingy.
5) your submission was very obviously anti-camper or something we considered in bad taste. If you’re curious, feel free to message us and as but we don’t veto things very often.
6) look at reason #1. Then go back through the archives and I bet it’s one of the early ones.
*If your submission is about showers, there is a very good chance it is too similar to others. If your submission is about how camp is better than the rest of the world, there is a very good chance it is too similar to others. If your submission is about how camp has greatly impacted who you are as a person, there is a very good chance that it is too similar to others. Please be more specific if you feel your confession is unique and please scroll through the archive before submitting it.
** Please refer to the screen shot in March. The inbox can be HUGE and doesn’t even show the in editing confessions.

Anonymous asked: I've worked at a city day camp before, but this summer I'm working at a residential camp. Advice?? :))
This is also a question we’ve been receiving a lot lately, probably due to the start of the season (YAY!). Here are some follower responses about their favorite tips and here is a fantastic guide put together for first timers. My own experience with residential camps has taught me to cherish alone time and that being tired is a way of life.
Edit: I knew there was another one. Thanks so much followers.

Anonymous asked: what camp do you go to?
This question has been asked a lot and it is almost always anon. Please read the first paragraph of The Monthly Submissions Reminder (it’ll be up soon) and this video may also answer some questions. Most importantly, it shouldn’t matter what camp(s) I specifically have attended (…have worked for, will attend, will work for, will send my progeny to) because the confessions come from thousands of people and are associated to several camps.

New Things?
So we all know that the confessions that began this site are awesome. And it seems that there has been a positive response to the Only at Camp photos since we haven’t lacked for those since we started publishing them. Occasionally we have received a note or two that were written by campers. Today it occurred to me that these are some of the most moving examples of what camp is and I am interested in showcasing more of them.
The first thing would be a change of tags, moving things that have previously been classified as Making better Mondays to something along the lines of Funday Sundays. Making better Mondays would then become a place for people to share notes to or from campers, counselors, staff, etc. There are some other things to take into account; for example, we would need submissions of these notes. In the same vein as photos and confessions, I would ask that full names not be included as well as names of camps. In addition, this would mean one less confession during the week but hey, we’re closely approaching camp season so I think it’s safe to say most of us won’t be on Tumblr quite as often.
Thoughts, opinions, support, as always are welcome both publicly and privately.
love and afternoon naps,

Anonymous asked: Quick question - I'm trying to submit an "Only at Camp" photo and am having difficulty uploading. I can only seem to be able to import if the photo has a url - but I'm just trying to submit one from my saved files. Any suggestions or am I just technologically challenged?? Love your blog by the way!!
On the Submissions page it says “Submit a Text Post”. Click the down arrow next to that and select “Submit a Photo”. This will allow you to upload a file instead of linking from somewhere.

Anonymous asked: #335, while true, degrades the site and makes me less bought-into what you do. I hate to let you know anonymously, but I can't join another social media website. Dave
I’m sorry that you feel that way however, this site is not trying to raise camp up as a perfect utopia. While we genuinely love camp, it isn’t always smiles and glitter crafts, it is much more complex than that. These confessions and the site were created to voice truths about camp, both talked about and unspoken. We aren’t trying to create something that people ‘buy into’ and if you choose to not follow us then that’s your choice. In closing, with such a wide reader base and wide range of camping experience it is probable that each confession will not reflect every single reader’s own opinions.
